Remodeling in Culver City

What is different about remodeling in Culver City?

Culver City runs its own Building Safety Division and its own online Permit Portal. It wants a separate application for each structure and each type of work: building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, demolition and solar. Small jobs under the city's plan check threshold skip plan check, and larger ones go through one or more review rounds. Work hours are set by the city too: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. We set the start date only after we know which permit path a project is on.

Up the hill, Wrightcrest and lower Culver Crest are in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so new windows, vents and decks there follow the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code. We check the zone for hillside addresses at the first visit.

The median Culver City home was built in 1963, and about 84% predate 1980. Only about a third of the city's homes are detached houses, so we remodel condos and townhouses here as well. In a condo, the HOA's rules on work hours and deliveries go into the schedule next to the city's.

Permits

Who issues remodel permits in Culver City?

Bathrooms. Culver City issues its own permits. Plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits are issued separately from the building permit, so a bathroom remodel usually involves more than one permit. We pull them together.

FAQ

Remodeling in Culver City, answered.

Call us: (424) 455-6464
How long does plan check take in Culver City?
The city estimates about 20 business days per plan check round, or about 10 for qualified expedited reviews, and says to expect more than one round. Small projects below the plan check threshold skip that step. We tell you which path your project is on before we set a start date.
Why does a Culver City remodel need several permits?
Culver City asks for a separate application for each structure and each permit type, including building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical. A kitchen or bathroom usually involves three or four of them. We prepare and track them together in the city's Permit Portal so the inspections line up.
Who permits a remodel in Culver City?
Culver City issues its own permits. Electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits are issued separately from the building permit, so a kitchen remodel usually involves more than one permit. We pull them together. Official information. We confirm the exact path for your address before the estimate is final, and we pull the permits for you.
Do you work in Culver City?
Yes. Culver City is part of our regular service area. We cover Carlson Park, Culver Crest, Sunkist Park and Blair Hills, ZIP 90230, 90232. Consultations are free.
How much deposit will I pay?
California law caps the down payment on a home improvement contract at $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less.
