Kasimov Construction is a licensed general contractor (CSLB #1148319) that remodels kitchens, bathrooms and whole homes in Malibu, ZIP code 90265, and rebuilds homes lost in the January 2025 Palisades Fire. Malibu is its own city, and permits come from the City of Malibu. Most meaningful projects here also need a coastal development permit. Remodeling in Malibu

What is different about remodeling in Malibu?

A Malibu project goes through more layers of review than most LA projects, so we plan around the approval process from the first sketch. The City of Malibu runs its own planning and building process, and most meaningful projects also need a coastal development permit. Many properties are on septic systems under strict onsite wastewater rules, bluff and hillside parcels need geology review, and fire-zone rules apply.

These reviews take time, but they are manageable when the order is planned early. Our work here includes bluff and beach houses updated with materials that hold up to salt air, canyon homes remodeled or rebuilt after fire seasons, and kitchens and primary suites with cabinets from our own workshop.

Fire rebuild

Rebuilding after the Palisades Fire.

The Palisades Fire of January 2025 also burned homes in Malibu. The City of Malibu permits its own rebuilds through the Rebuild Center next to City Hall and runs a fee waiver program for like-for-like rebuilds. Details: Malibu Rebuilds (City of Malibu).

We rebuild from a cleared lot to a certificate of occupancy: survey, plans by licensed architects and engineers, permits, and construction to the current wildfire code, at a fixed price in writing.

How we handle fire rebuilds
What the wildfire code asks forCalifornia WUI Code
Roof

Vents

Walls

Windows
Multi-pane glass with at least one tempered pane
Doors
Noncombustible, 1-3/8 in. solid core or 20-minute rated
Decks

FAQ

Remodeling in Malibu, answered.

Call us: (424) 455-6464
What is different about septic in Malibu?
Much of Malibu uses onsite wastewater systems under strict local rules, and a remodel or addition can trigger a review or an upgrade of the system. We check it at the first visit because the septic answer often decides the scope.
Do bluff and hillside lots need geology review?
Usually, yes. Geotechnical and geology reports are standard on bluff, hillside and canyon parcels, and the findings go into the foundation and drainage design.
Can I rebuild bigger than my old house?
Yes, within limits. Like-for-like rules already allow a little more. In the City of Los Angeles, Executive Order 1 covers rebuilds within 110% of the old footprint and height, and in the Eaton Fire area of unincorporated LA County (County rules) and in Pasadena (city program) the limit is 10% or 200 sq ft, whichever is greater. Anything larger is a new design: it has to meet current zoning and takes a longer review. In the Coastal Zone of the Palisades, Executive Order 8 fast-tracks single-family homes that meet every zoning standard.
Do I have to build to the new fire code?
Yes. If your lot is in a fire hazard severity zone, the roof, vents, siding, windows, doors and decks have to meet the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code (formerly Chapter 7A): Class A roof, ember-resistant vents, ignition-resistant walls, multi-pane glazing with a tempered pane, rated doors and decks (LA County construction notes for fire hazard zones, 2026). We check the fire hazard map for your address before the plans are drawn and build to the code that applies on the day the permit is issued.
Who permits a remodel in Malibu?
City of Malibu handles permits here, separate from LA City's LADBS. Most substantial projects also need a coastal development permit; interior kitchen work is simpler. Official information. We confirm the exact path for your address before the estimate is final, and we pull the permits for you.
Do you work in Malibu?
Yes. Malibu is part of our regular service area. We cover the beach and bluff homes, the canyons and Point Dume, ZIP 90265. Consultations are free.
How much deposit will I pay?
California law caps the down payment on a home improvement contract at $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less.
